Can I apply six sigma to Information Security? January 6, 2010

Six Sigma is a compilation of world’s best management practices. It is a concept which say’s if say we have y = F(x), your processes should be so efficient that there is no need to check the final y. There are many tools like FMEA analysis (Risk analysis), Cause & Effect analysis (Can be used for vulnerability assessment), VA/NVA analysis, 7 types of wastes etc etc.

Six sigma was invented by Motorola in 1987 and was pioneered by GE. This is a management practice. It develops your brain. You start managing your process jobs in refined manner. You start recording the deviations from ideal results. You document properly your understanding. You take your decisions on Standard deviations instead of means.

While we implement controls (pick and drop) from Cobit. Many of the matrix mentioned are on similar line tools in six sigma. I have recently learned tools like 9 window, TRIZ and Zachman Framework. Again these might not be present in Six Sigma, but I have developed a understanding on how can I refine the process I work by getting into the insights, noting the facts, becoming a devils advocate, playing with emotions, Implementing controls, bringing creativity.

My 2009 best and year 2010 resolution January 2, 2010

Let me write it down so that I rejoice when I read it again after a few years…………………

For me 2009, was the year where I have really learned a lot…. From being a technology guy with very less knowledge to business, patents, compliances, governances, international trades, Industries, kyoto, global warming. I just can’t write everything I have touched. This all came to me because of my excellent MBA program where I have spent nearly 80% of my day time on my computer increasing my knowledge. I was a novice in finance but now I am a strong candidate and slowly sharpening my skills for the Industry Impact.

So I feel very happy for the speed with which I have build my knowledge in this 2009.

Coming to 2010, my greatest resolution is to keep this pace and accelerate it more to the best of my ability. I am also looking for a great job in this year 2010. I want to explore the domain of BFSI 200% with no compromise and add value to the best of my ability.

Captive Call/Contact centers

A company which plans to send jobs to India has two options – either do it on its own (captive centre) or outsource it to the companies in India which have the relevant skills. You could consider combining the two models too.
Captive centers are those centers that are operated for servicing their own clients and not third party clients.

Few questions that you need to dwell upon before deciding on starting your own centre are:

Is it a one one-off outsourcing assignment or a long term assignment?
How much flexibility do you want for future downsizing or expansion?
Are you using any proprietary technologies? If so, captive could be better.
Do you want to control the day to day operation?
Is it better to build a captive centre from scratch or acquire one?
Few of the captive centres in India are,

3Com in New Delhi
Accenture in Bangalore. Currently has a 5,000 seater BPO facility [not sure how many employees] supporting internal HR needs.
American Express in
ABN Amro Central Enterprise Services (ACES) in Gugaon and Delhi with 2,000+ employees. Handles credit risk management

This is an excellent Technology curve by gartener. This is a self explanatory curve. I found it with Technologies mentioned. This curve mostly you get without Technologies mentioned. Can you see where the cloud computing and surface computing is presently.

Dear All,

When we hear our National Anthem, we all can feel the pride……….. I feel the blood actually running faster and faster in my arteries with full of energy……..

Hats off to these graduates from IITs and IIMs who are asscociated with the Teach for India campaign.

Request to please watch this video….

The statistics say out of 10 primary students, only 1 will clear higher education in India. In India 24% of the polpulation is below Xth class. We really have to work on this……

Even I am looking for some assignments in this field..
